Aloha Kalikimaka Ladies,

Thank you for the invitation to share my exciting project of celebrating 20 Years of Hula in Paris.

Last year, Island Heritage published my book entitled I CHOOSE YOU, which was nominated for Excellence in Children's Literature at the Po'okela awards.
It tells of a young Hawaiian girl, La'ikealoha,  her aunty Ku'ulei and thier adventures in Paris, France.  One of the high lights of their trip was to meet the Paris
Halau founded by Aunty Kilohana from Hawaii,  and to feel the wonder of experiencing Hula  2 oceans away.  They also shared treasured
traditions with the French haumana who  became quick friends of La'i.

This book celebrates the cherished value of Ohana, including extended family...revering the aunties and uncles in our lives, who some how appear to malama
us in time of need. It also shows how cultures, especially in art and dance become the bonding force in the lives of these young girls, bringing them together
  in such a unique way.

In July of 2012,  Aunty Kilohana, myself, and a whole Hawaiian Entourage  of musicians, and dancers will be going to Paris to celebrate the 20th Anniversary
of this very unique Halau that has  thrived in Paris. It is called Halau Hula o Manoa.   My book,  I CHOOSE YOU, has been chosen as the product we are selling
to help us fund our venue for a concert in Paris, and to take la'i, and special ferns and adornments for the event.  We have personally hosted  a few afternoon
teas at Kilohana's s home in Manoa where her halau from the Kapiolani Women's Center have come to support us, buying books for Christmas presents for their Ohana.

We are also in the planning stages of events at the Bishop Museum, the Manoa Heritage Center, and the Waioli Tea Room in the coming year.  There will be
readings, books signings, and of course hula and music with many dear friends attending.

Mahalo Piha, Patricia Lei

Garage Sale for Children's Miracle Network

Aloha!
Grab that old sweater, bop-it toy, pots and pans, table, or pokemon card that you just don't use anymore and donate it for a good cause. On October 29, 2011 from 7 AM to 2 PM come and join Miss Hawai'i Lauren Cheape and friends to raise money for Kapiolani Hospital Children's Miracle Network through a super duper garage sale! 100% of all of the funds raised stay right here in Hawai'i to help our local Keiki. Kapiolani Hospital is the only Children's Miracle Network Hospital in Hawai'i. So go through those closets, drawers, and garages to help save children's lives. Every little bit helps! All items can be dropped off at Lauren's (very patient and supportive) parents house the night before (Oct. 28) or early the morning of Oct. 29. The house is located at the top of the street at 94-540 Lehuakona St. Mililani HI 96789. If you have items but are unable to drop them off please email Lauren at lauren@misshawaii.org. This is not going to be your traditional garage sale! There will be music, entertainment, and a bake sale to make it a fun fundraising event! (Also if you have a passion for baking and would like to donate some bake goods we are looking for contributions!) Please help out Hawai'is Keiki and get some house cleaning done while you are at it. Mahalo!

God Bless,

Lauren

Mililani High School Homecoming Parade

Aloha!

So earlier in the day I was at the ACE CMNH Kick-off with Champion Child Maddy Wisser. While cutting the cake together at the event I asked her if she wanted to be in the Mililani Homecoming Parade with me right after this event. I have never seen a smile so big. So just 20 minutes later I kidnapped Maddy and took her home with me to go to the parade. My grandma was also joining us to ride in the front seat of the Miss Hawai'i car. A big Mahalo to Scott who drove us in the parade! It was so great to see Mrs. Hawaii USA Christie Oclaray, Senator Kidani, Senator Dela Cruz and all of my former teachers from elementary, middle, and high school. I remember watching that parade every year in elementary school and then marching in the parade in high school. It is always good to be back!

God Bless,

Lauren

I love every opportunity I get to hang out with Maddy, Kapiolani's Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Champion Child of 2011! She always has such a bright smile on her face and we have had the chance to really become great friends. We were out at Pioneer Ace Hardware in Kapolei to kick off their Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Campaign. Thank you so much to all of the owners and employees of ACE who make this fundraiser a big success.

Calvary Chapel Pearl Harbor Career Day

Aloha!

Hanging out with fire fighters, navy divers, police officers, Piko the fun-loving therapy dog from Tripler, KALO TV, Nina from Disney's Imagination Movers, and so many others! The kids from Calvary Chapel Pearl Harbor got a real treat. I was so very lucky to be at the same table as Caroline Chapman a former Miss Hawai'i contestant who founded the non-profit Families in the Fire which helps the families of those addicted to substance abuse. We were treated to some awesome entertainment done by the children of the school. Many of the songs the kids wrote themselves! It was also great seeing Lani Kaaa at the event, Former Miss Hawai'i who runs KALO TV! Thank you to everyone who made this night a great success.

God Bless,

Lauren

Mililani High School

Aloha!

What a great feeling it is to have the opportunity to go back to my Alma Mater Mililani High School to crown the homecoming court. It was so much fun to see all of my former teachers and principal who made my time at Mililani really special. I even wore the yellow gown for Mililani Pride! Not to mention I still remember every word to our school song, all of those times singing that song on our way home from away games with volleyball, swimming, and water polo. Great Memories!

Lauren

Once A Month Church

Aloha!

I had the opportunity to be a guest speaker at Once A Month Church down in Haleiwa on the North Shore of Oahu! Once A Month Church meets at Haliewa beach park and is: The body of Christ that meet once a month to feed and remind the homeless community the hope we have in the Lord, Jesus Christ. I has so overjoyed at seeing what an amazing impact this church has had in our community. Pastor Ron has such an awesome passion to reach out to the needy of Hawai'i. There were four buses of people that came over from Waianae, the other side of the island, just to be a part of the fellowship and to grow in the knowledge of the Lord. It was also great to see so many volunteers from the group Surfing the Nations that comes out to help every month. A big mahalo to Sasha that made me a special lei knowing that I would be at church that week. I have never taken so many pictures, gotten so many hugs, received so many smiles, and felt so loved by the entire congregation. They truly warmed my heart, ministered to me and reminded me how important it is to continue to constantly love on everyone you meet.

God Bless,

Lauren

Aloha Week Parade

Aloha!

The Aloha Week Festival in Hawai'i is always a great time of fun, food, and activities. One of the main highlights is the Aloha Week Parade, one of the biggest parades in Hawai'i! I was so excited to have my brother Matthew Cheape, current University of Hawai'i Men's Volleyball player, drive me in the parade. Brought me back to the days where we used to do everything together. Along the way we even ran into fellow Miss Hawaii Contestant Shannon Dresser as she was doing her job keeping everyone safe as a Honolulu Police Officer. A special Mahalo out to Jon, Kekoa, Todd Oshiro and the rest of the Miss Hawai'i team who helped me decorate my car with beautiful flowers so early in the morning. The parade had such high spirits it made me want to jump out of the car and starting dancing to the Aloha Week Hula!

God Bless,

Lauren
