Christmas Will Find Us Wherever We Are

New Musical Release by Candes Meijide Gentry, CMG Records

Christmas Will Find Us Wherever We Are

Release date:November 1, 2009

PRESS RELEASE

Candes, Miss Hawaii 1999, is very excited about the release of her third album. With over 35 songs available via digital download on sites such as iTunes, Amazon, eMusic & the likes, Candes has decided to ring in the Holidays with a promotional tour to celebrate and promote her first Holiday Album. Christmas Will Find Us Wherever We Are consists of 12 songs, 3 of which are original songs that speak of Christmas in the Islands: the title song "Christmas Will Find Us Wherever We Are" by Ron Creager & Tina Tessina; "A Christmas Love Song" by Kristin Zambucka, & "Aloha, The Spirit of Christmas" by Randy Hongo.  You will also find several Hawaiian Christmas favorites as well as some surprising twists on all time Holiday classics.

Featured on the album is Grammy Award winning slack key guitarist, Jeff Peterson. Jeff delights listeners with his ukulele, classical & steel string guitar and tenor ukulele. He brings an Island feel to the CD that is unparalleled and provides a beautiful cloud on which Candes' voice soars.

Dr. Laurence Paxton, chairperson of the University of Hawaii at Manoa Department of Music, demonstrates his multi-faceted musical prowess through exquisite accompaniment, arrangements & repertoire.

Once again Candes has chosen to record and produce her album at Rendez-Vous Recording under the musical guidance and genius of Pierre Grill. Condesa Azria Nora Meijide-Gentry of Atelier 808 captures the essence of Candes' vision in her incredible photography. Long time friend, Joey Caldarone, is featured in a rendition of "Baby It's Cold Outside," and Candes' niece and nephew, Tasia and Kaimana,  make their recording debut in a children's chorus on one of Hawaii's all time Christmas favorites, Alex Anderson's "Mele Kalikimaka."

Candes would like to wish you a happy holiday seasons and hopes that this CD will serve as a reminder that "it's not the things you do at Christmas time, but the Christmas things you do all year through..." - The Secret of Christmas

"Gentry and Grill do a beautiful job. Gentry sings these standards with skill and sincerity. Grill's arrangements are uncluttered and use a piano as the primary instrument. Joey Caldarone, another long time friend, joins Gentry for a stirring rendition of the title song." - John Berger, Star-Bulletin 2009 (Come What May, released November 2008)

"A valid voice, an auspicious debut; She sounds as pretty as she looks. Candes...has a powerful voice well-suited for the performing stage." - Wayne Harada, Honolulu Advertiser 2006 (A Change in Me, released February 2006)

Back to School- Take 2!

Hey All!

This past week I visited Waipahu High School where I hung out with Ms. Dayna Fu's "Focus on Freshman" Class. It's a life and career guidance class. I got to share my message of getting involved in the community but mostly applauded these young adults for being proactive- volunteering and choosing a plan of action for college! It's so refreshing to see young people excited about their future!

Dave Shoji's 1000th Career Win Celebration!

Hey ALL!

This week I had the honor of participating in University of Hawaii's Women's Volleyball Head Coach, Dave Shoji's 1000th career win celebration! Wow, what a tongue twister! But a fancy title doesn't scratch the surface of how monumental this occasion really is. Dave Shoji has been coaching for over 30 years, has 3 National titles under his belt and countless NCAA Tournament appearances. Not only has Dave made his mark as one of the best Division 1 college coaches with a coveted win-loss record, he has also coached some pretty amazing women. Even a Miss Hawaii, that's right, I'm a former Wahine! What an incredible honor to have played for a such a prestigious program and an even better coach! CONGRATS DAVE on your 1000th career victory and many more to come!

(download)

The Miss Hawaii Organization and its Local titleholders are constantly supporting charitable campaigns throughout the year...they do so because they believe in the many worthy causes that effect especially women. Recently, our new Miss North Shore and Miss Windward, Jalee kate Fuselier and Lauren Cheape spent some time with Trini Kaopuiki of KHON to promote the upcoming Susan G. Komen Foundation campaign with Ward Warehouse's LOCO BOUTIQUE. Congratulations to Jalee and Lauren for their efforts and to all the Miss Hawaii contestants that unselfishly give of their time and energy to support causes that effect women. ~A Week in the Life~

Aloha All!

I wanted to share some fun pix of what I've been up to the past couple weeks! Uuuuuu super exciting! I recently hung out with the St. Andrew's Priory Girls' Volleyball Team. CHHHEE HOO that was so much fun! Check out this excerpt from Dr. Don Hirada, board member of the Miss Hawaii Organization and papa of a team member. The girls rocked the gym!

" Yesterday was a made for movie event that had a storybook ending with Miss Hawaii and the St. Andrew's Priory Volleyball team.  It was unbelievable!  The "plot".  SAP (St. Andrew's Priory) VB is a Division II team. They played Sacred Hearts Academy a Division I team whom they have never beaten since playing volleyball at SAP. SAP needed to win this game to tie for third and make the playoff as a third seed ( fourth seed plays the #1 team).  Team was down after getting thumped by the # 2 team and the coach and I were looking for something to inspire the team.  30 minutes before the game, Miss Hawaii, Raeceen walks in to talk to a surprised group of Girls and gives them a 10 minute inspirational speech. The "Ending".  The girls were so pumped and excited after listening to Raeceen that they actually played beyond their abilities or as the coach said "they were in the Zone" and beat the team they were not expected to beat and had never beaten before.  Raeceen was right there on the bench with them screaming and cheering them on.  It was chicken skin incredible!!!!  Thank you Ryan for your small gesture that allowed this incredible story to be told forever!!!   Mahalo Doc"

I no like brag, but being an athlete, this is the kind of stuff we live for!! Congratulations again St. Andrew's Priory!! Take it all the way!

Let's swtich gears a little to another form of competition. It's that time again, and sooooo soon! The search for Miss Hawaii 2010 has commenced. This weekend I had the unique privilege of co-emcee-ing (who knows how to spell that one!) the Miss Island Mokihana pageant with a dear friend of mine, Devanni Patridge, Miss Washinton 2009. The Miss Island Mokihana title is the very first of its kind and was awarded to a stunning, talented, and huge-hearted woman, Noelani Kaui. A special mahalo to all the volunteers and sponsors for making that evening truly unforgettable. Of course, let's not forget the "man with the plan", Miss Island Mokihana's ED, Avery Kano. He is the epitome of a "man-wonder!" His immaculate attention to detail paid of with one of the finest preliminary competitions I've ever witnessed and the crowning of a stellar woman. CHEERS NOE AND AVERY!! Sneak-a-peek at this weekend's pix:) Until next time, BE GOOD AHH?!

Aloha Festival Parade!!

Hey Everyone!

Here is a fun picture taken by a friend at the Aloha Week Festival Parade! That was so much fun! I remember when I younger, my family would take me to the parades. We would sit on the sidewalks for hours and go nuts over every float and group that passed by. As I was in the Miss Hawaii convertible, seeing all the little ones scattered on the side made me very emotional. I couldn't believe that I was actually in the parade! As a little girl growing up watching them, I would have never thought I would one day be in one! I was overwhelmed with humility and knew for a fact that none of this could have been possible without God's grace:) Enjoy the snapshot!
